What: Early Summer Mushrooms in SW Alberta along Bergen Road

Attendance: 15 people
Mushroom Species Found:
- Pleurotus ostreatus
- Witch’s Butter (Tramates sp.)
- Witch’s Hat (Hygrocybe conica)
- Agaricus sp.
- Jelly ear fungus
- lots of Mock Oysters
- possibly a Dryad’s Saddle (Polyporus squamosus)
- Crown tipped coral (Artomyces pyxidatus)
- Red belted conk
- Artists conk
- Phellinus tremulae
- Quite a few LBM’s
Terrain: Mix of conifer and aspen. Fairly flat and wet as there was previously a lot of rain.
Weather Conditions: Pleasant, warm with partially sunny skies.
Additional Comments: Driving from Calgary, which was very rainy, we were pleasantly surprised by sunnier skies towards Bergen. A few people found edible oysters, however the forest is still a little young and has minimal aspen deadfall. We did find some other interesting mushroom varieties. Hopefully this could be a good location later for summer mushrooms, in particular, the boletes
